Miguel Palomar y Vizcarra papers, including records of the Liga Nacional Defensora de la Libertad Religiosa, 1903-1960 (bulk 1926-1929) [microform].

Microfilm of correspondence, serials, monographs, pamphlets, typescripts, clippings, broadsides, and assorted material pertaining to the LNDLR and other activities of Miguel Palomar y Vizcarra, such as his association with the Cajas Rurales and the Partido Católico Nacional and his service in the state legislature of Jalisco. Most materials relate to LNDLR activities and positions, such as its opposition to educational reforms proposed in Mexico in the 1920s and 1930s and its response to the "arreglos," and to social Catholicism. Included are letters of league officials and Mexican bishops; league publications; Catholic periodicals; and records (1926-1937) of the Union Nationale de Tous les Amis (V.I.T.A.), the European arm of the LNDLR. Many of the items were annotated by Palomar years after their creation. Materials from the 1940s and 1950s usually analyze or describe events and people of the 1920s and 1930s. Individuals prominent in the papers include archbishops Pascual Díaz y Barreto, Leopoldo Ruíz y Flores, and José María Gonzáles y Valencia; bishop José de Jesús Manríquez y Zárate; and league officials Rafael Ceniceros y Villarreal and José Tello.
